Everyone deserves to be proud of their smile

Whatever age you may be, there are lots of reasons why you should consider orthodontic treatment. Who wouldn’t want to look and feel more confident when they smile? As the saying goes, you never get a second chance to make a first impression–and your smile is a huge part of that. Having a healthy, beautiful smile can change your life, benefitting you physically and emotionally for years to come.

Start early for benefits down the road

In alignment with the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) guidelines, Chapman Orthodontics recommends scheduling your child’s first orthodontist visit at the age of seven. This will allow Dr. Chapman or Dr. Farhi to identify any potential or existing concerns with your child’s teeth or jaw. Thankfully, some orthodontic issues can be corrected early, eliminating the need for more intensive and costly treatment later in life.

A close look at your child's mouth

Most children have a mix of both primary (baby) teeth and permanent teeth at this age. Chapman Orthodontics offers a free initial orthodontic exam that includes digital X-rays, a 3D mouth scan, and photographs of your child’s teeth–all at no charge. If early treatment is necessary and your child’s permanent teeth are not all in yet, we may suggest a two-phase approach. Or better yet, we may discover that your child doesn’t need any treatment at all! Whatever the results are, you can always count on us to give you an honest diagnosis.

The two-phase approach

If a two-phase approach is necessary, the first phase of treatment will address your child’s early tooth and jaw problems in hopes of preventing more serious issues in the future. This first phase of treatment may take 9-12 months to complete, and it can decrease the amount of time needed in the second phase. Once your child has all their permanent teeth, it’s time to start the second phase of treatment. Every case is different, but the second phase of treatment typically lasts up to two years.

Great news! One phase of treatment often does the trick

A single-phase orthodontic approach that begins when all permanent teeth are in will typically resolve the majority of orthodontic concerns–often eliminating years of additional treatment, costs, and visits! You can trust Chapman Orthodontics to help you determine the ideal time for your child to start treatment based on the unique development of their teeth and jaw.

Teens now have options

Orthodontic treatment is practically a rite of passage for this age group. If your pre-teen or teen feels self-conscious about their less-than-perfect-smile, this is an ideal time to get started with orthodontic treatment, especially now that most of their permanent teeth are in.

Thankfully, the awkward braces of the past are long gone! Today’s braces are smaller, sleeker, and far more modern, making them a popular choice for even the savviest, most fashion-forward teens.

Invisalign® clear aligners are also popular, especially for those who want a more discreet and more flexible treatment option. Like the name says, Invisalign aligners are practically invisible and also removable, which means your teen can take them out for team sports, band concerts, yearbook photos, prom, and other special events.

How long will I have to wear braces or Invisalign clear aligners?

Treatment may be quicker than you think! A teenager’s jaw and teeth typically start responding immediately to orthodontic treatment. If you’re looking for an average, think 24 months. But as you know, every child is different, with different concerns, so your actual mileage may vary. Count on Dr. Chapman and Dr. Farhi to give you the straight scoop so you can make an informed decision on creating his or her beautiful smile.

Smile with self-confidence as an adult

As we age, our desire to look and feel our best doesn’t go away. If anything, it keeps growing. When you feel self-conscious about your smile as an adult, it can affect your job, your relationships, and so much more. If you can’t imagine going through orthodontic treatment later in life, think again! We see lots of adult patients who are ready to finally have the smile of their dreams.

Some adults consider orthodontic treatment for reasons that go beyond aesthetics, such as tooth and jaw pain, tooth decay or gum disease, or difficulty chewing. Whatever your motivation may be, adult braces or Invisalign clear aligners can deliver the results you’re hoping for. Chapman Orthodontics is here to help you make it happen.

What’s the difference between a dentist and a board-certified orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a dental specialist–in other words, a dentist who completed years of additional education and training beyond dental school focused specifically on the safe and healthy movement of teeth and jaws. Board-certified orthodontists like Dr. Chapman also voluntarily complete additional education and assessments to display their commitment to life-long learning and the highest standards of orthodontic practice.

Every patient is special enough to deserve a specialist, and that’s exactly what you’ll find here at Chapman Orthodontics. Dr. Chapman, Dr. Farhi and their specialized orthodontic team have the knowledge and expertise to provide the absolute best in orthodontic care. We promise you’ll experience exceptional care, have an enjoyable treatment journey, and achieve a confident, beautiful smile that’s perfect for you.
